Icom recently released the new IP510H, a compact public network radio that’s quietly reshaping our understanding of “radio” beyond HF.
First, let’s talk about the size, because that’s what’s most appealing. Measuring 59.7 × 144.7 × 34.9 mm and weighing 220 grams with the battery and antenna, the IP510H is truly pocket-friendly-even smaller than my old ID-51 PLUS2. The IP67-rated housing can withstand coffee spills and the inevitable downpours during SOTA activation; I held it under running water for five minutes with only my pride damaged. The USB-C port is located under a rubber cover on the base, so you can charge it with the same power bank you use for your phone on long trips. No base, no dedicated round connector-just plug it in, charge, and go.
